State Report

State Report:

All State report assignments (except the cookie) are part of the final report and will need to be saved and included in the final State Report folder/Binder.

The Fifth Grade state project consists of a few parts. individual assignments, note cards, a biblography, and a computer project.

Each student has been assigned a state to investigate. Every week they will recieve a portion of the project to complete. They will need to research and take notes as they work on their investigation. They will then transfer the information onto the worksheets provided (when provided) and place those worksheets into a report folder (this can be a folder, a three ring binder, or any other presentation folder). The report folder with completed assignments will be collected weekly. ALL WRITING MUST BE YOUR NEATEST CURSIVE (OR TYPED) AND WITHOUT SPELLING OR GRAMMAR ERRORS. COMPLETE SENTENCES ARE A MUST AND IN MOST CASES ONE SENTENCE RESPONSES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. A Social Studies grade will be given for each week's completed portion.

Students will have time in class for both the research and writing assignments, but a bulk of the work will need to be completed at home. especially the research since our in class supply of research materials is limited.

Students are required to use no less than four different research sources. An encyclopedia (Cd rom, book, or web site) must be one of your sources. Wikipedia cannot be used as an encyclopedia source. I suggest that an almanac is a good source for finding the most recent information regarding the state's population, industry and government officials.

As previously discussed students will be required to complete note cards and biblography cards ( See the notes page, and student handouts), these are considered part of the report and will be graded.

In addition, students will be creating a State Keynote presentation during computer class. This portion of the project will begin after the students have completed the first of the weekly writtten assignments. Mrs. Tenenbaum and myself will guide the students through the process.

If you have any questions or problems, please come see me BEFORE something is due. I can't fix a problem or help you understand what a worksheet requires on the day the assignment is due. In addition, it is your responsibility to keep track of the worksheets given, complete them by the due date, and maintain the report folder. Good luck!

Please do not work ahead. Directions will be given when assignments are given. Working ahead may cause duplicate work.

DUE DATES ARE FIRM DATES, NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCECPTED!
