Memory Bag About a Book-

Directions: Make a list of the story elements, making sure that you retell the story. Beside each element, write down an object to represent each one. Find objects and put them in a paper gift bag. You will use them to retell the story to a partner.

 

Storyboard-

Directions: Divide a 9" x 12" or 12" by 18" paper into eight equal parts, either by folding of drawing lines. Using the elements of a story have students make a picture in each of the eight sections and a few lines under the picture, explaining the drawing.

 

Section 1. Title, Author, Date, as well as Retold by_______

Sections 2 - 7 Conflict, Main Events and Resolution of the story

Section 8. The Theme

 

Plus 5 - Minus 5-

Brainstorm events in the book and chart on a graph using the +5 - 5 timeline outline.

 

Literary Scrapbook-

Directions: After completing a piece of literature, design a six-seven page scrapbook of the book. Brainstorm objects found in scrapbooks; movie and therter stubs, awards and certificartes, newspaper articles pictures, souvenirs, pressed flowers, invitations, hair, postcards, letters, menues, greeting cards, and receipts. Draw or cut pictures out of magazines and put in other mementos symbolizing the character. Write under each picture or memento why it was significant ot the character, what it represented , or why you chose it.

 

Character Suitcase-

Directions: Using story elements characters need to make and pack a suitcase that one of the characters in a story or novel will take on a trip. You need to include the following items. (objects may be handmade, computer art, stickers, or small objects):

a. A luggage tag that has the character's name, address, and destinaiton written on it.

b. Memorabilia to decorate the outside of the suitcase, such as bumper stickers or mementos from previous trips.

c. Ten items that the character would pack. These items may be both tangible and intangible. For example, Brian Robeson, the main character in Hatcher, packs a hatchet (tangible) and courage (intangible) because he needs both to survive.

d. A brief explanation stating why the character chose to pack each item. It should be written from the character's point of view.
